Jakub Skřivánek
Jakub is focused on the study of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi. His research focuses mainly on two environmental gradients that are expected to change rapidly due to global human influence - the temperature gradient and the nitrogen gradient. The question he is trying to answer is whether changes in these gradients will affect the fundamental niche of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (compared to the realized niche), their survival, growth and also the growth of host plants. Jakub is a PhD student at the Faculty of Science, Charles University. In addition to the Institute of Microbiology of CAS, he works at the Institute of Botany of CAS, where he conducts most of his experiments with living plants. Besides arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, Jakub is interested as a hobby in fungi involved in various forms of fermentation - he prepares homemade kombucha and bakes from sourdough.
